"Reduced annual VOC emissions by 80% after installing the equipment.”
Reduction of standby emissions of VOCs in the resin manufacturing process
This plant manufactures basic petrochemical products, and as of 2000, standby VOC emissions were 820 tons/year.
Most of the VOC emissions are solvent emissions of dichloromethane used in the resin manufacturing process. In 2002, we introduced a new recovery system (PSA method) from System Engineering Services, Inc. and achieved an 80% reduction in emissions compared to 2000.
Dichloromethane is a non-flammable solvent that is easy to handle, but it is a highly volatile substance with a boiling point of 40 degrees Celsius. System Engineering Service’s removal and recovery equipment uses silica gel as the adsorbent, and desorption of the adsorbed solvent is performed by vacuum extraction. The system has two adsorption towers and operates continuously by alternately repeating adsorption and desorption, achieving a significant reduction.
Reasons for adopting the system
Wide range of applicable concentrations of gases to be removed
High removal and recovery rate (99% or higher)
No steam is used for heating in desorption/regeneration, so no wastewater containing solvent is generated.
Because silica gel is used as the adsorbent, temperature rise due to adsorption heat can be suppressed.
Degradation is slow, so a long service life can be expected.
